5 Tips for Writing a Knockout Care Provider Profile!

A strong profile helps families determine if you are a good fit for their family’s needs. A great first impression via your biography can lead to an interview request or maybe even a direct booking! The key to writing a killer profile is to include all and only relevant information about your experience and skillsets.

With that said, here are our 5 tips for writing a knockout profile:

1.Say hello! Introduce yourself. Tell readers where you’re from, and add any personality traits that would help families get to know you as a person. Include any credentials or certifications, such as CPR certification, or relevant course completions, you may have that show your continued training and dedication to this profession.

2. Talk about your prior childcare experience! Next, tell them a little bit about your professional childcare experience. Note, being a parent yourself is often not enough experience as not all parents make great childcare providers! Focus on the experience you have looking after other people’s children. This is a great time to mention the ages of the children you have worked with and your responsibilities. Families are looking to understand how you would tend to their children.

3. Showcase your unique positioning. If you’re the kind of provider who likes to plan activities, like going to local museums and parks, or has a network of nannies you communicate with to plan play dates around the city, add that to your caregiving profile! Again, this help parents get a sense of what to expect from your childcare services.

4. Share your future goals! Families love to know your goals in your childcare career. Share with them, as it may open up opportunities you never imagined! Examples could include: traveling with families, starting a future daycare, becoming a doula, and so much more.

5. Add some personal touches: Many of us struggle with showing off all of our talents and experience (ie - baking, singing, skydiving, knitting, karate black belt). Write your profile and then share it with your friends and family. Ask them what’s missing that they know about you that shows why you make a great caretaker! This is the perfect way to capture your unique personality.

Here are a few examples for some inspiration:

CHILDCARE:

“Hi! I’m Marianna. Born and raised in NYC, I love helping kids explore the world around them. I’m currently a student at NYU studying child psychology. I’ve been babysitting children from ages 3-10 years old for the past 5 years. I often help families with afterschool pickup, homework and make kids simple dinners. I’m child and adult CPR certified. Fluent in Spanish. Former families describe me as “fun, reliable and attentive.”

NIGHT NANNY:

“I’m Hazel and have been caring for newborns and infants for over 13 years. My primary responsibilities include feeding, bathing, changing diapers, sleep training, assisting mothers with breastfeeding, doing the baby’s laundry, and sterilizing bottles. I have significant experience with preemies, colic and sleep training. I enjoy reading to my infant charges, and making sure that they are always happy and comfortable. I am patient, caring, and very knowledgeable about infants’ needs. I can also help new parents become confident parents. Upon request, I can teach parents all aspects of caring for the baby. The best part of my job is seeing babies smile and their happy parents!

TUTOR:

My name is Marie. I’ve taught math, including algebra and geometry, to children between 3-10 years old. I make learning fun through various games and activities that I’ve learned while working with the Peace Corps. I can follow the school’s curriculum or supplement the curriculum to strengthen children’s math skills. My goal is to help students develop independent problem-solving skills by incorporating real-life examples into my lessons. Art will also most definitely be brought into lessons, especially if the focus is geometry.

I’m a graduate of CUNY with a bachelor of science in business administration and a minor in French. Since graduation, Marie joined the Peace Corps and worked for two years at a preschool as a math teacher. Prior to the Peace Corps, I worked as a volunteer tutor where I taught reading, writing, and math to children to students in need in a youth literacy program.”

Pro tip: Be sure to proofread and edit any grammar mistakes. We recommend putting it through a grammar checker to make sure you sound professional. Your writing also demonstrates your style and level of communication.
